Vita

Sarah-Lena Böning, born 1988, is research associate at the Chair of Social Policy and Methods of Qualitative Social Research of the University of Cologne since October 2015. In her dissertation project she concentrates on digital health monitoring products for self-monitoring (health-tracking, self-tracking) and their interdependencies with self-determination, doctor-patient-interaction and attitudes towards solidarity.

After graduating from her studies of health economics in Cologne and Madrid, she worked as a research associate at the University of Applied Science Koblenz in the department of health care and social services management, and has taught as a visiting lecturer at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, at Yasar University in Turkey and at the University of Sofia in Bulgaria. During an internship she gained experience in the quality management of St. Elisabeth Hospital in Cologne Hohenlind and conducted a survey on the patient wristbands within a patient safety project.

Besides her functions for the chair, Sarah-Lena Böning teaches since 2016 health management students at the Administration and Business Academy Cologne (VWA Köln). Since 2012 she also works as freelance author and editor. For the AOK Verlag she writes on issues regarding quality management and process orientation in inpatient long term care.

Research Area

Sarah-Lena Böning is interested in research regarding health systems, merit goods, solidarity, autonomy and consumer protection in health care. She currently focuses on the development of mHealth and interdependencies of health apps with self-determination, doctor-patient-interaction and attitudes towards solidarity.
