Dr. Remi Maier-Rigaud studied economics and social sciences in Berkeley, Freiburg and Cologne. He graduated in 2003 from the University of Cologne (Diplom Volkswirt sozialwissenschaftlicher Richtung). From 2004 until 2008 he worked in the Department for Social Policy as research and teaching assistant. During this period he conducted two longer research stays with the Social Security Department of the International Labour Office in Geneva (2005) and the Stein Rokkan Centre for Social Studies in Bergen (2007). In 2008 he earned his PhD from the University of Cologne for his dissertation “Global Pension Policies. Programs, frames and paradigms of the World Bank and the International Labour Organization”. From 2008 until 2011 he worked as economist in the Pharmaceutical Sector Inquiry Task Force and subsequently in the antitrust unit dealing with pharmaceutical and health related markets for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition in Brussels. Since May 2011 he is assistant professor (Akademischer Rat) at the Department for Social Policy in Cologne.
His research interests are global and European social policies, social insurance, health and pharmaceutical policy as well as consumer policy.
